Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be gambled on in casinos throughout the globe, or in your house on your PC, through a web connection. The rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to achieve the greatest assemblage of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, apart from the involvement with any other players. The game of Video Poker starts when the bettor puts credits (whether it’s tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and presses the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.

The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers should now choose which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the enthusiast would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the bettor has chosen which cards he would like to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be handed out. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Typically, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payout schedule can range from machine to machine, so that discerning bettors are able to select the most profitable ones every instance.

Once the first round has played out, the player can either choose to continue on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Further, a few versions of the game give the bettor a chance to double their wins, in which situation another game is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing elements to increase playability.
